The Friends Historical Library Miscellaneous Manuscripts is an artificial collection, established in the middle of the 20th century to store single and very small groups of manuscripts and documents, both originals and copies. The collection includes holdings relevant to antislavery, temperance, women's rights, penal reform, and other social concerns of Quakers in the United States and in England.

Warner Mifflin (August 21, 1745 – October 16, 1798) was an American abolitionist and an early advocate of reparations for slavery. Born and raised in Virginia, Mifflin established himself as a planter in Delaware in 1769. Thomas Ross was an Irish-born Quaker minister who spent much of his life in southeastern Pennsylvania. He emigrated as a young man from Tyrone, Ireland to Wrightstown, Bucks County, Pa. Nicholas Waln (1742-1813), Quaker minister, was the son of Nicholas and Mary Shoemaker Waln. He married Sarah Richardson in 1771. Their children included Joseph R. Waln (1773-1783), Jacob Shoemaker Waln (1784-1847), and William and Nicholas Waln. Waln was educated as a lawyer but, as a result of a profound religious experience in 1772, gave up his lucrative practice. Peter Yarnall, a birthright member of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, was born 1754, 2mo, 17 to Mordecai Yarnall and Mary Roberts Yarnall. Apprenticed to learn tanning, he transferred his membership to Uwchlan Monthly Meeting in 1771. Isaac Zane was a Philadelphia Quaker carpenter. Born in 1710 to Nathaniel Zane in Gloucester County, New Jersey, he moved to Philadelphia around the age of 14 and lived there the rest of his life.
